Students document local band, The View

Former Undergraduate Time Based Art students, Derrick Linton, Sam Spreckley, Jen Randall, Andy Sim, Allan Crook and Ian Martin were approached by Dundee band, The View, to document the bands biggest homecoming gig at the Caird Hall on the 9th April 2007.

This was a great opportunity for the above crew to work together on a multiple (5) camera shoot with 4 of the team, Derrick, Sam, Allan and Andy working on the final multiple camera edit. The dvd is due for release to the public in late summer 2008. Derrick who is currently doing his MSc in Electronic Imaging has been approached by Emily Dewhurst who organises the annual event Go North, which promotes local bands. This is to be hosted in the city of Dundee. The film collectively produced will be screened at Dundee Contemporary Arts on 5th or 6th June, 2008.

    Ibiza Rocks

After trashing their villas on the party isle last year, punk rockers The View have been warned to be on their best behaviour when they return for the launch of the Ibiza Rocks Hotel this summer... or face a ban from the event.

We Are Not Rebels, Says Kieren

HEY have a reputation as the bad boys of rock, but The View claim they are just a bit misunderstood.

In March 2007, the band's lead singer Kyle Falconer, 20, was fined £1000 for possessing cocaine, but his bandmate and bassist Kieren Webster doesn't think that makes them rebellious.

Kieren, 21, said: "I don't think it's really rebellious taking drugs.

"There's better ways to be rebellious, like writing a rebellious song.

"We don't try to promote any kind of image. We just do our thing and play our gigs.

"As long as people come along, we'll keep playing them."

The Dundee upstarts, who have helped to combat racism in music with the Love Music Hate Racism campaigns and just played at a Versus cancer gig in Manchester, feel their bad behaviour gets an unfair rap while the positive stories often get ignored.

Kieren added: "Things did happen, but you can focus on other things apart from that. Other good stuff happens that never gets mentioned.

"As soon as you get chucked out of hotels, it's all over the place. That's the way it is."

Kieren, who was interviewed at length for a Japanese publication, said he and the boys try to keep fit even when they've been partying the night before.

He said: "I don't know, but we're all pretty energetic. Even when we're hungover everybody's running around playing football, half drunk from last night."

He also revealed he and Kyle wrote Wasted Little DJs after their girlfriends asked them for a musical dedication. He said: "All our songs are a joint effort. Kyle wrote a lot of it.

"That was spontaneous because the girls wanted us to write a song about them, so we just did it.
"Normally one person comes up with an idea and then we both just sort of jam it out together."

Kieren, who has just finished writing some new material with the rest of the band in Cornwall, also spoke of the differences between Japan and Dundee, saying he has a mixed relationship with his home town.

He claimed: "Being in Japan makes you want to be a better person, it's really clean. Dundee's very different. I have a love-hate relationship with Dundee. I love it at the moment because I'm never there, but sometimes I want to get back."
