    Live performance on BBC 6

The View will be popping into BBC 6 music on Friday 10th October to perform a couple of songs from their new record.
  • BBC 6 Music
  • 5Rebbeccas Review

I am ratcheting down my enthusiasm for this new single -- is a new album due already?

The opening Oasis-by-way-of-Scotland hook and the various Libertines-isms are infectious!

Songs like this -- especially with a video like this -- have a weird sort of power; they make it seem, if for only 3 or 4 minutes, that things are right with the world -- the inner 18-year-old is alive again and the car stereo is blaring. Only the United Kingdom can produce music like this -- Scotland in this instance -- and this kind of single is the equivalent for me of American Top 40 AM radio in the 1970's.

The single is king and the perfect 4 minute pop song is the land's highest art form.

So what if the albums are never as good as the lead-off singles, eh?

Current Scene Is Rubbish Say's Pete

The View’s guitarist Pete Reilly has said the band’s new single is a riposte to the ‘load of rubbish’ currently doing the rounds in rock. Speaking to Steve Harris on Xfm last night, he said:

“It’s good to come back with a big tune like [5Rebeccas], because there’s a load of rubbish out there. The best is still to come off the album as well”.

Holed up in Wales with producer Owen Morris (Oasis, Ash, The View), the band are currently mixing the record ahead of a January 2009 release.

“This record’s so much stronger than the first album”, said the guitarist. “We’re all agreed”.

    5Rebbeccas

A music video in an attempt to support The View's new single titled "5Rebeccas" has just arrived. The new song will appear in the band's sophomore studio album, which hasn't had any release date as well as a confirmed title.

The video starts rolling with a pair of hands opening a book and writing the band's name and their new song title on the first page of the book. As it is finished, the book is then opened to the next page which tells the band's stories, including their live shows, through newspaper cuttings and some photos.

Furthermore, to promote their upcoming set, the Dundee band have announced a roadshow, which will take in a total of 35 dates across the United Kingdom. Kicking off in Dunfermline on October 16, the band also include shows in Manchester on October 23 and London on November 21. Detailed schedules for their tour can be checked on their MySpace page.

View Stay In Shade Down Mexico Way

THE VIEW are just home from a Mexican adventure - but still have their Tayside tans.

The Dundee band, whose new single 5Rebeccas is out next month, rode quad bikes through the jungle, jet-skied and played golf at dawn after a night on the tequila but shunned the sun. Guitarist Pete Reilly said: "We're Scottish - we don't do suntans. I was wearing factor 30 but I still got burnt really badly."

The band are hitting the road for 35-date UK tour, including five Scots dates, with a new set including songs from the follow-up album to Hats Off To The Buskers.

    Inverness fans scramble for tickets

The hottest concert tickets in Inverness were snapped up within half an hour of going on sale yesterday as excitement mounted in advance of The View’s latest gig in the city.

Around 15 people queued early yesterday for 50 available briefs for the Dundee band’s eagerly-awaited concert at the Raigmore Motel.

And motel owners Ken and Hazel Stott spent the rest of the day fielding phone calls from fans not lucky enough to get their hands on the gold-dust tickets.

Mr Stott, 55, said: “This is the second time we have had The View perform here.

“They first appeared in September 2006.

“We are glad to see they have come on so much since then and that they are still together. We are looking forward to having them back and I’m sure it will be a great night.”

His wife said about 15 people had queued up to secure tickets and they sold out in less than half an hour.

The Raigmore had about 50 tickets to sell but another 250 or so were also selling online.

The tour will see The View play 35 dates ahead of a new album due for release next year. A single, 5Rebeccas, is out on October 27.

The Dundee band shot to fame in 2006 with their debut album, Hats Off To Buskers, which earned them a Mercury Music Prize nomination. Decamping to rural Wales with producer Owen Morris in early summer this year, The View have been working on their second album, which has yet to be titled.

While still described as a “joyful rush”, the album also weaves its way from rip-roaring boogie to Tayside sea-shanties. It will be released in early 2009.

Tickets for Cage the Elephant, who will play the Raigmore Motel on November 15, also went on sale yesterday.

    5Rebbeccas Review

Dundee group The View have announced details of their comeback single "5 Rebeccas", to be released on October 27th.
The single comes after a series of highly productive recording sessions with producer Owen Morris. Responsible for the glistening sheen that accompanies such era defining classics as "Definitely Maybe" and "A Northern Soul", Morris has given the band lee-way to produce something quite special.

The View debuted new material in a headline performance at the Clash Arena at Rockness this summer, and Clash were invited backstage to listen to the new album in its entirety. An assured second album, it finds the band at comfort in a studio setting. Retaining their familiar pop touch, it nonetheless expands and improves on the raucous sound of their debut album "Hats Off To The Buskers". Featuring guest appearances from fellow Scot Paulo Nutini and a member of Babyshambles, it looks set to be the band's best work yet.

"5 Rebeccas" will be the first track taken from the album, and has already become a firm live favorite with the band's loyal following. Released on October 27th, the single will be accompanied by three new tracks as B-sides: "Dun Deal", "Mr Men Book" and "For You".

"5 Rebeccas" by The View will be released on October 27th. The new album will be released in January 2009.

    The View's homecoming show

THE View will play a homecoming gig in Dundee at the end of November.

The boys will play Fat Sam's, where they were first discovered by a touring Pete Doherty.

News of the gig came as the band announced details of a 35-date UK tour, plus a new single.

The track 5Rebeccas will be released on October 27, and will be the first single from the band's new album.

The tour will see the band playing small venues, kicking-off at Dunfermline Velocity on October 16. The other Scottish dates are Raigmore, Inverness, on October 17, The Loft, Forres, October 18, and Edinburgh's Cabaret Voltaire on October 19.

They'll also play King Tut's in Glasgow on November 12, Lemon Tree, Aberdeen on November 27, and the Ocean, Kirkcaldy on November 29, before the finale at Fat Sams in Dundee on the 30th.

They are making a limited pink vinyl seven-inch available when visitors to their website pre-order tickets, which go on sale at 9am on Friday.
