Which Bitch? review
First things first, what the flipping heck were the rabble-rousing Dundee boys thinking when they came up with that for an album title?
Let's hope the band's female fans aren't too offended because once they stick it on the stereo they'll find there's a lot to be charmed by.
Not least standout track Covers which features fellow Scots lad Paolo Nutini. There's also gorgeous, brooding ballad Unexpected, with sweeping strings and plaintive guitars, and a cute folky number called Give Back The Sun - which channels Noah And The Whale's Five Years' Time.
For fans of the lads' raucous side, there's 5 Rebeccas about a lover who's "turned into a junkie", The Faces-esque Shock Horror and the swaggering Glass Smash in which frontman Kyle Falconer sings "I never claimed to be no angel".
But it's when they go bonkers that they sound best, like on the almost-classical Double Doubloon and the new wave, half-rapped One Off Pretender. Sweet and melodious closing single Gem Of A Bird should win over any remaining uncertain gal fans.
